A welcome addition to American History Studies collections
Faces Of Alaska: Voices Across The State by Jean Lester is an engaging portrait of the lives of a wide selection of remarkable and justly proud Alaskans. Black-and-white photographs, personal testimonies, the unique insights of artists, publishers, homemakers, native Alaskans, and more, fill the pages of this memorable tribute to a great state and its people. Faces Of Alaska would make a welcome addition to American History Studies collections in general, and Alaskan History Studies reading lists in particular.

The First-Created Man: Seven Homilies by St. Symeon the New Theologian
Published in Paperback by Saint Herman of Alaska Brotherhood (January, 1995)
Authors: Fr. Seraphim Rose, Brother Rose, Abbot Herman Podmoshensky, and St Herman of Alaska Brotherhood
Average review score:

A wonderful group of Homilies
St. Symeon the New Theologian is often overlooked in the Western Church, but thankfully this is changing. This selection of his homilies concerning the fall of Adam and the nature of the Fall-Redemption relationship is very good; I recommend it highly. Father Seraphim's translation reads very well and allows one to focus upon the message of the text rather than on deciphering the writing. All in all, this is a wonderful book for anyone interested in Christian thought, be they Orthodox or no.

Fishcamp : Life on an Alaskan Shore
Published in Hardcover by Shearwater books (May, 1997)
Author: Nancy Lord
Average review score:

Travel to Alaska for under $30. Read this book.
I'm an admitted sucker for nature writing and natural history, but am often disappointed in what I find out there. Not so with Fishcamp. This is that one-in-a-thousand book that I've longed for since first reading Walden twenty years ago. Ms. Lord writes beautifully of her day-to-day life fishing with her partner on Cook Inlet. And the stories and legends of the Dena'ina people, as well as the lives of the fishermen who have come before, will not be easily forgotten. This is not sentimental philosophizing about summers in Alaska. It is clear, respectful, and humble writing that will, I hope, be read for years to come

The Flight of the Golden Plover
This is an outstanding narrative for reading aloud to second graders studying Alaska, birds, or migration. It's inspiring, well-written, and full of powerful vocabulary. Lovely, realistic watercolor illustrations.

Marc Taylor, Author of "Hunting Hard...In Alaska!"
Larry's vividly descriptive writing style and attention to detail arm you with the knowledge necessary to hunt safely and successfully in any part of Alaska. His gift for delivering the results of his extensive research will guide you to the game animals, and leave you longing for his next book release.
I highly recommend reading and STUDYING this book before venturing into the rivers of Alaska, whether you are new to the "Last Frontier" or a seasoned hunter.

Flora of Alaska and Neighboring Territories: A Manual of the Vascular Plants
Published in Hardcover by Stanford Univ Pr (August, 1968)
Authors: Eric Hulteen and Eric Hulten
Average review score:

THE Alaska plant book!
This book is the most helpful book for identification of Alaska's plants that I've ever found. The plants are correctly organized and well described, and listed by their latin name rather than the ever-confusing common names used in many books. This book is a must for anyone serious about researching and identifying the plants of Alaska or it's neighbors.

Flyfishing Alaska
Published in Paperback by Johnson Books (June, 1995)
Author: Anthony J. Route
Average review score:

Flyfishing Alaska
This is an excellent how to book for the fly fisherman going to Alaska. Each species of salmon and trout is covered with details concerning best time of year to fish, best fly patterns and what tactics will produce strikes. This is a how to fish rather than where to fish book although it does mention many areas worth investigating. I would suggest buying both this book and the book, Alaska Fishing, by Limeres and Pedersen, which gives detailed info. on where to fish rather than how to fish. Both excellent books that when used together will prepare the angler for the trip of a lifetime. Tight Lines.
